The Essence of the Season: A Warm Reflection from Our Mastermind Family

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear."* — Mark Twain

Welcome to this little corner of the world where we come together, share our stories, and lift each other up to keep moving forward, and never, ever give up.

As I sit here reflecting on our final Mastermind gathering, my heart is overflowing. What a gift it is to be part of a family like this, a family bound not by blood, but by something perhaps even more powerful: a shared commitment to growth, service, and love in action.

A Gathering of Hearts

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." — Leo Buscaglia

Our beloved Paul Hutchings opened our holiday session with his signature warmth: "I guess if you insist, we'll get started." And what a start it was! With deep gratitude for Ashley Casper's heart of service, showing up each day to welcome everyone, getting the music going, and making sure every single soul feels at home. We were reminded that the small acts of kindness are often the greatest gifts we give.

Paul shared something his son heard him say and is now passing it on…

"Service is nothing more than Love in Action."

Every time we show up for one another, every time we lend a hand or offer an encouraging word, we are putting love into motion. And friends, *that* is what this community is all about.

That’s what life is all about.

What Does It Mean to Be Truly Wealthy?

"Wealth is not about having a lot of money; it's about having a lot of options." - Chris Rock

Paul posed a question that I believe we should ask ourselves often:

“Can we develop the philosophy of a successful person and allow that philosophy to guide our actions each and every day?”

Wealthy financially? Yes.

Wealthy in relationships? Absolutely.

Wealthy spiritually? Without a doubt.

True wealth, as we explore it together, isn't just about the numbers in a bank account. It's about freedom. The freedom to spend your time as you choose, to be with the people you love, to never feel trapped on a snowy, icy road when you'd rather be home by the fire.

Our friend Danny shared a video of himself driving through treacherous winter conditions, captioned: "More motivation for me!" That's the spirit! Every challenge becomes fuel when you have a vision worth chasing.

The Power of Curiosity and Character

"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - Mahatma Gandhi

Jim Rohn reminded us that "Leaders are readers." Paul expanded on this with a truth that has stayed with me:

“To be interesting, you must first be interested.”

The more curious we are, the more we search, learn, and grow, and that is what makes for a truly interesting, magnetic person. So pick up that book. Ask that question. Stay hungry for wisdom.

And as we cultivate curiosity, let us also cultivate character. Honesty. Integrity. Being genuine and sincere. These are the building blocks of a life well-lived.

The Essence Behind the Words

"The soul is placed in the body like a rough diamond, and must be polished, or the luster of it will never appear." - Daniel Defoe

Paul shared a beautiful story from Napoleon Hill's work. A woman once approached Hill after a teaching and expressed concern that he didn't mention Jesus Christ in his books. His response was profound:

"Ma'am, if you will pay close attention, you'll see I do speak of Him on almost every page of my works, not in the word, but back of them."

This is the invitation for all of us, regardless of our individual beliefs: Look for the essence.

What is the deeper spirit behind the words, the traditions, the rituals? There is wisdom everywhere if we have eyes to see it.

"Christianity is the greatest potential power in the world today, because its founder was an intense dreamer who had the vision and the imagination to see realities in their mental and spiritual form before they had been transmuted into physical form."

"Ideas are intangible forces, but they have more power than the physical brains that give birth to them. They have the power to live on, after the brain that creates them has returned to dust."

What is your idea? Your dream? Your vision? Are you moving toward it?

Gift-Giving: The Ultimate Form of Target Marketing (Yes, Really!)

"The greatest gift is not found in a store nor under a tree, but in the hearts of true friends." - Cindy Lew

Paul offered a delightful insight that made me smile: Gift-giving is the ultimate form of target marketing.

Think about it, when you truly know someone, when you pay attention to their likes, their needs, their little joys, you can offer them something that speaks directly to their heart. Paul shared how he found bonsai trees on Amazon for his plant-loving mother (after a childhood incident involving a thrown shoe, a split plant, and a broom chase!).

The lesson? Whether in business or in life, when we take the time to understand others deeply, we can serve them beautifully.

The Golden Rule and the Story of the Lawyer

"When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace." - Dalai Lama

One of the most moving moments was Paul's retelling of Napoleon Hill's story about a lawyer sent to collect a debt from an elderly couple. When he arrived, he found the door ajar and witnessed the couple in prayer, a heartfelt plea after losing their sons, trusting God to provide.

The lawyer couldn't do it. He told his client, the landlord, what he had witnessed. The landlord's response? "I wish you hadn't told me... but it was intended for both our ears. God moves in mysterious ways. Call them and tell them the claim has been met."

What is the essence here?

Compassion changes everything.

When we truly see one another, when we let love guide our actions, miracles happen.

Going the Extra Mile

"You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you." - John Bunyan

"Oh you foolish seekers of wealth, why not give in order that you might get!"

And Paul asked us a question I'll leave with you:

“Can you do more than you are paid to do without LOVE?”

The answer, of course, is no. Love of the work, love of the people, love of the vision; this is what transforms effort into excellence, and service into significance.

Voices from Our Beautiful Community

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." — Helen Keller

The Mastermind call closed with a chorus of loving voices, and I want to honor just a few:

Brett Hudson: "It's what's around the tree, not under it."*

Kevin Sousa: "Don't wait to give. Give today. Experience how it feels when that person smiles because of what you've done."

Jessie Jenkins: "We all require love, the vitamin that keeps us going. Without it, life becomes dismal."

Janene Hanners: Made her first sale! (Whoohoo! 🎉)

Chloie from Spain: "A Merry Christmas to all of you and a Happy New Year!"*

Booker: "You have given us a gift that will give through the centuries."

Pas Simpson: "It doesn't hurt a candle to light another. Thank you for being you."

Paul's response: "The light burns brighter because of you."

**Kristian Craige: "Everything I was looking for was right here all along... Let's not let words and rituals get in the way of our connectedness."

Bill Moist: "Don't hang onto things so hard that we squeeze other people out."

Bryce from Reno: Shared the magical story of how the Charlie Brown Christmas special came to be: Pieced together with love, including a three-year-old's voice edited syllable by syllable for Sally, and Linus delivering the true meaning of Christmas. "I hope you watch Die Hard this year." (Classic Bryce! 😄)

A Surprise Visit from Santa Claus: "Paul, you see the good in everyone... Merry Christmas! Ho Ho Ho!"

Elizabeth: "It's not so much the words we read or hear, but the feelings behind them, the essence. Look for the love."

Owen: "I practice the three-foot rule. If you're within three feet of me, I will find something about you to put a smile on your face."

Danny Youngers: "Close your eyes. Remember being seven years old:

That anticipation, that pure joy, that innocent excitement. We can tap back into that childlike faith."

Gail: "No man is an island. If you feel alone, please reach out. We are here for you."

Sarah: "I am influencing my family as I slowly take steps forward instead of staying in the background. This Christmas miracle is starting to come into reality."

Linda Rica: Is grateful for the help from the community. She made her own first funnel! 🎉

Travis: "Y'all got me smiling ear to ear. Just enjoy everything you've got."

A Personal Reflection

"Gratitude turns what we have into enough." - Aesop

As I sit in my little basement room, new paint, new carpet, a bed given to me, and so much more, I am blessed. I sip my cup of collagen, coconut oil, and cacao, listening to the snow melt as it turns to rain falling from the sky. I have found this beautiful Grow Rich Mastermind family, and I am so grateful. My heart beats steady in my chest. This is day two of a new year, and I get to look back over these archives, excited for what's ahead. 2026. The Year of the Fire Horse! A year to master fear, master new skills, and build freedom through service and purpose. If I can gather an influential community of kindred spirits, I can be a messenger for the brands, people, organizations, and movements I believe in. You are blessed to follow your dreams and live your purpose too.

Paul's Holiday Wish (and Mine, Too)

"At the end of the day, it's not about what you have or even what you've accomplished. It's about who you've lifted up, who you've made better. It's about what you've given back." - Denzel Washington

“My hope, my wish for you and me, regardless of how we celebrate, is that we hold the essence of this season in our hearts. Let us use this time to live and give more, to have more tolerance and understanding, to hold the essence in our hands and hearts, and to move forward in a more light-filled way.”

Hold the Essence

"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." - Albert Pike

Friends, as we step into this bright new year, a new you, let us remember:

- Service is love in action.

- To be interesting, be interested.

- Give in order to get.

- Look for the essence, the spirit behind the words.

- It doesn't hurt a candle to light another.

- No one stands alone. We are here for each other.

From Napoleon Hill's timeless words:

"Cultivate LOVE for your fellow man, and you will no longer want to lock horns with him in futile combat. Love makes every man his brother's keeper."

And finally:

"Life is but a short span of years at best. Like a candle, we are lighted, flicker for a moment, and then go out. May we collect our greatest treasures by rendering all the service we can, to all the people we can, in a loving spirit of kindness and sympathy."

With a heart full of gratitude and love,

Your Neighbor in the Journey

*P.S. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, the Winter Solstice, or simply the turning of a new year, may you find peace, joy, and the courage to keep dreaming. And remember: the world is willingly paying you for more than you do when you lead with love. Now go light another candle.
